On 16 December 2024, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) published three documents related to the Capacity Market, with the intent to support the UKs clean energy mission and secure electricity supply.
Firstly, a consultation that focuses on modernising Capacity Market rules and improving consumer-led flexibility, particularly for Demand Side Response (DSR). Key changes include simplifying rules, boosting accessibility, reducing administrative burdens for DSR participants and introducing measures to ensure delivery assurance.
Secondly, DESNZ have launched a Call for Evidence, to seek views on enhancing DSR participation, including introducing new technology classes, and improving delivery milestones.
You can respond to both the consultation and the Call for Evidence by visiting their webpages where you will be signposted to an online platform. The deadline to respond to both is 17 February 2025.
The Capacity Market 10-Year review sets out to assess the scheme between the years 2019-2024, evaluating whether its objectives remain appropriate. Please visit this page where you can access the report.
