We have appointed Steria UK to work as our IT and business process service provider to develop, maintain and operate the settlement systems for the Government’s Electricity Market Reform (EMR) policies.
Procuring a large-scale settlement system for a government programme is a major milestone achievement for us, and demonstrates that we are on track to start our role as EMR Settlement Services Provider.
We chose Steria because of their solid experience and capability in building and running major IT systems for a range of high profile clients including the Ministry of Defence, BBC Worldwide, Land Registry and the Health & Safety Executive. We look forward to working with Steria, to create an innovative system which will be easy and efficient for our EMR stakeholders to use.
Peter Haigh, ELEXON’s Chief Executive commented, “This is a significant step in the EMR programme and for ELEXON. Steria’s strong portfolio in building and delivering IT systems assured us that they have the right experience and expertise to support our role as Settlements Services Provider for EMR. We are excited to be working with Steria to build a pioneering settlement system for the benefit of EMR stakeholders.” There is still much to do for the EMR programme, and we will share our implementation timetable including when we expect to undertake system testing with our EMR stakeholders soon.
The appointment of Steria is via EMR Settlement Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ELEXON which has been designated by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) as the EMR Settlement Services Provider. EMR is a high profile programme which aims to transform the UK electricity sector to enable low-carbon generation and ensure that our future electricity supply is secure. We are delighted to be undertaking this role and to be working with DECC’s Low Carbon Contracts Company (the CfD Counterparty Body) and Electricity Settlements Company (the CM Settlement Body).
Delivering this key piece of UK energy market infrastructure further cements ELEXON’s role at the heart of the energy industry, to provide solutions to common industry problems for the benefit of all stakeholders.
